Despite a few spotty connections and language barriers, Amelia and I have been able to keep in touch very often. At first I will admit, it was a little difficult as our conversations often went like this...
Me: Hi Sweetie! How are you doing? I really miss you!
Amelia: 我很想念你，想想你很多。我爱你这么多!!! 但是你最好你裁员温迪的辣椒，在我回家前!!!
Me: Meli, remember... I don't know Chinese - let alone the Shanghainese dialect...
Amelia: Sorry, it's second nature when I'm over here. The strangest part is that I don't even know how I learned Chinese...
Yes, Momma and Baby are continuing to have a good time over in China. We've spoken on the phone and talked about what it's like being 15 hours into the future. Both amazingly and surprisingly, the current events of her 15 hour window into the future strangely coincide identically with the goings on back in yesterday-ville Portland. While heading out to visit factories, Amelia is sitting outside the little artist village Fengjing, which is just south of Shanghai:
While the lil Peanut didn't want me to make a big deal about it, but it has entered the second trimester, or the Chinese character 孕中期, during its stay in Shanghai! What's more, we're already into the "a mind of its own" phase, where the lil Peanut is starting to display its own unique personality - a
fantastically beautiful thing! And the increased motor reflexes mean it can even start sucking its own thumb. The little minnow is also swimming laps down in Momma's belly inside its little amniotic swimming pool. Takes after ol' Dad right there - my one year of unfathomable fame and glory in the highest echelons of high school sports was of all things, swimming - albeit not at all gracefully nor very quickly. I'm sure the lil 'Nut would already be swimming laps around me.
Peanut has also received some wonderful gifts from Aunt Becca and Great Aunt Betty. Auntie B has picked up an incredible and ironically very animal-appropriate little Lamb prayer book! Which in (obviously) Amelia's words, "the Lamb is one of our inspiration pieces (a gift from a very great friend of ours, Juan), this is so perfect!" Also, Great Aunt Betty has hand made a very beautiful and incredibly time-relevant graduation beanie and matching mocassins! I think it's so funny how tiny the baby booties are - the whole thing can fit inside the opening on a pair of my boots! I laugh every time I think about that. Thank you so much both of you for the wonderful gifts!
